 Press Releases

  • Milpitas, CA- Quantum3D Inc., based in Silicon Valley, CA and Orlando, FL, is a leading developer and manufacturer of real-time visual simulation systems and has further extended the capabilities of its Quest2 sensor plug-in for its Mantis Visual Simulation software platform.

Quantum3D has long provided Image Generator hardware and software solutions for flight simulation systems, including physics-based sensor channels such as EO, NV, and short, medium, or long wave IR, as typically used in aircraft targeting pods. These sensor features are facilitated by the viXsen and Quest2 plugins for Quantum3D’s Mantis Image Generator software.

Quantum3D now adds multi-spectral sensor picture-in-picture and blending capabilities to its Quest2 plug-in. With this capability, multiple Mantis sensor channels, each in different wavebands, can be composited together with no additional external hardware which means more cost savings for customers.

In recent years, aircraft sensor systems have become available that incorporate the ability to display one waveband as a picture-in-picture within another waveband, or to display an image that is composed of two different wavebands blended together. These new options further enhance the ability of Mantis to be used to simulate a wider array of these advanced aircraft sensor pods in training and simulation systems.

    Examples of usage are:

    • Displaying an Electro-Optic (EO) channel with a FLIR inset window, or vice-versa
    • Blending an Electro-Optic (EO) channel with a FLIR channel, with dynamically adjustable blend ratio
    • Multiple PiP windows are supported, e.g. an EO background image with both SWIR and LWIR PiP windows.
    • Image space post processing of either or both channels prior to composition is also supported. As an example, this allows the EO channel to have edge detection applied prior to blending with the FLIR channel.
    • Multiple displays are supported, with dynamic switching between displays. E.g. with two MFD displays, one showing EO and one showing FLIR, the two displays can be switched, or one display can be replicated as an inset on the other display.

The image composition is dynamically re-configurable under Host system control, allowing pilots to switch between different modes of operation during flight. For more information and to see live demo of products, please visit Quantum3D booth no:1660 at IITSEC 2022 in Orlando between November 28 and December 1, 2022.
