  • WITTENSTEIN Awarded Boeing Contract
    for T-7A Control Loading Systems

For immediate release – Sept 17, 2020 – Bartlett, Ill -- On July 22, 2020, Boeing officially confirmed WITTENSTEIN as the provider for the control loading system design for the ATDs (Aircrew Training Devices) for the new T-7A aircraft.  The training devices will feature the latest technology and enhanced characteristics, produced to meet the requirements of FAA Part 60 Level D standards.

WITTENSTEIN will be supplying our proven high fidelity control loading system for the T-7A ATDs, which incorporates the sidestick, rotary throttle and rudder pedals into a system that accurately replicates the haptics of the T-7A aircraft. The active force-feel feedback supports pilots in training for the most challenging situations experienced in the real aircraft. To configure and tune the control loading system to the required characteristics of the T-7A aircraft, WITTENSTEIN will use its industry proven software, Aktiv8®.

Commenting on the project, Eric Schilens, Business Unit Manager for WITTENSTEIN aerospace & simulation, noted his team is exceptionally enthusiastic to be working with Boeing, stating, “While we’ve worked closely with Boeing for almost 20 years now, this particular project feels especially momentous. The T-7A is an exceptionally innovative aircraft, and being part of the team producing the ATDs for the U.S. Air Force is truly an honor.”

Founded in the U.S. in 1992, WITTENSTEIN launched its simulation business here in 1999.  After years of consecutive growth, the simulation and defense division is now an integral part of WITTENSTEIN’s North American Headquarters, home to the “Center for Simulation Excellence”, a 12,400 square foot facility for the design, production and testing of control loading systems and other solutions for simulation and defense industry. The high-tech facility is equipped with the latest tools for digital shop floor management, ESD-compliance, testing labs, and security protocols for visitors in accordance with export control regulations.
